Introducing our Gender Affirmation and Transition guidelines
27 February 2017
Our aim is to make Coles a place where everyone feels valued for their unique contribution.
What others may see as differences, we see as opportunities to bring different perspectives to our everyday business challenges.
Raising awareness within Coles about our transgender community will ensure a supportive working environment for our transgender and gender diverse team members.
Over the past few months, Pride@Coles, our LGBTI committee have been developing guidelines for Gender Affirmation and Transition at Coles.
We are excited to announce that these guidelines are now available for our team members and form part of how we operate as a business.
Through these guidelines and the great work our Pride@Coles team are doing, we’re raising the awareness within Coles about our transgender community as well as providing information, tools and resources to assist all our team members to gain a greater understanding on how they can support or be supported throughout this journey.
These guidelines are an exciting step forward for Coles in relation to LGBTI inclusion in the workplace and are proudly supported by our Pride Sponsor, David Brewster, who had this to say:
"I am proud to be launching the Coles Gender Affirmation and Transition at Coles guidelines.
These guidelines explain how Coles will support transgender and gender fluid team members, and the support they can expect from their fellow team members.
We are proud to have a diverse workplace with team members from a wide range of backgrounds all with their own personal journeys and experiences.
The Guidelines are part of our commitment to providing a safe, stimulating and encouraging environment for all of our team members."
Pride@Coles
Starting as a grassroots effort in late 2015, a collection of dedicated Coles team members wanted to drive awareness in this space and Pride@Coles was formed and formally brought into our overall diversity strategy here at Coles.
In 2016, we have partnered with Pride in Diversity, Australia's first and only national not-for-profit employer support program for all aspects of LGBTI workplace inclusion. This partnership will help us drive positive change across our four focus areas, internal policies, communication, community engagement and internal events.
